“Well, that definitely does not work for me!”…

While it is probably not helpful to be rigidly trying to follow a nutritional approach 100% of the time, we do have to start with where we are at. We may have to be rigid about certain things. If you continue to eat things that make you feel like crap, that is putting an extra load of stress on top of what your body is already dealing with. You may have to have a firm “No!” to some choices and ingredients.

Just like in somatic work, pretty much everybody has his or her own unique food and supplement triggers.

As in the article on Addiction HERE, here are some possible things we could start noticing how they affect us.

  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine and chocolate
  • Not getting enough calories, carbs, fats, and protein that we need
  • Fiber
  • Meats vs plant-based foods
  • Alkaline vs. acidic foods
  • All medications
  • Supplements, herbs, minerals, personal care products
  • Dairy
  • Gluten
  • Glyphosate
  • Oxalate toxicity and thing that affect oxalates
  • High antioxidant and high polyphenol foods and fruits
  • High salicylate foods
  • Food dyes/colorings/processed foods
  • Sulfur foods and sulfites
  • Anything that affects your sleep and wake cycles
  • Temperature changes, seasonal changes
  • Added stress from overworking, overdoing, excessive care-taking and neglecting time for yourself
  • Not having a sense of purpose or meaning in our life
  • Not having a community that supports us how we need
  • Anything else you know is a personal trigger
Health/Food Journal

Like with everything, the first step is usually awareness. Noticing our patterns. Writing this down can definitely help to bring some clarity.

  • When do i notice positive changes?
  • When do I feel sick?
  • Do I get blood sugar crashes at certain times or after certain foods?
  • When do i feel tired, bloated, sleepy, heavy, weak?
  • When do I feel more angry or emotionally unstable?
  • Brain fog or mental unclarity?
  • Do I sleep better or worse on days when I eat certain things?
  • Do I have trouble waking up on certain mornings after I ate something the day before?
Not Permanent

Just because a food or supplement does not work for you now, does not mean it will always cause you an issue.

  • You may need cofactors to help support the supplement in order to balance it out. This would be a matter of deficiency.
  • You may be toxic in another mineral or heavy metal that is blocking the body using what you are trying to take. This would be a matter of toxicity.
  • Your nervous system may be very dysregulated and rejecting all sorts of things, even in microdoses.

What can help?

  • Start to bring awareness to what deficiencies you may have and how to start restoring them.
  • Start to bring awareness to what toxicities you may have and how to
  1. stop taking more of this toxin in
  2. how to start detoxifying what is already in your body.
  • Give yourself some time. Significant losses in your life, high stress, medication withdrawal, world changes, betrayals, are all some examples of things that need a lot of time. Sometimes, nothing can be done except allowing the body plenty of time and space to recalibrate and try to find a new sense of balance.
  • Work with somatic practices, such as TRE, resourcing, and processing to connect with your nervous system and build greater capacity and calm some of the high activation down.
