FAQ's

Please watch the Overview video at the top of the page to learn more about this.

We can have a free 30 Minute call to discuss what is happening for you and what you are hoping for!

If that doesn’t help, sometimes you just have to try several weeks of sessions or support calls and see how your body responds, and what results come from that, and then reevaluate after that.

Talking with a therapist can be a great support to have. Being seen and heard and understood by somebody else can be very powerful and is often a necessary part of healing. Working with both a therapist, and with a practitioner trained in somatics and trauma can be great. However, the effects of C-PTSD, Abuse, Neglect, PTSD, and shock(acute) trauma is stored in the body until there is enough safety and support and connection to bring the body back into balance.

In my experience and the experience of others, most talk therapists are not trained or skilled in working with the body and the nervous system. I don’t believe you can work with something stored in the body by only talking about it.

At best, talk therapy can provide some support and increased understanding of your situation and a feeling that someone cares and understands your situation.  At worst, it can retraumatize you if you are just talking about past negative events without your body and nervous system being ready for it. Or it may not do much of anything, and you just find yourself spending a lot of money and time going to sessions.

I haven’t heard of many people finding real resolution or healing from just talk therapy alone.

I believe that you do have to devote time and money to your wellbeing and growth. I regularly spend money each month on my own personal sessions and continue to see improvements and gains and understanding. You know, I’d rather save that money for something else, but I view it as a necessary thing to budget for.

Let me know if your budget is a concern, and we may be able to work something out.

If funds are very limited for you, you can still find online tools for free on my Resources page HERE under meditations.

I have found that working by yourself will probably only get you so far, especially if you have more complex trauma.  We are designed to connect and have co-regulation with others.

You could try looking for local group support, or facebook groups for somatics and emotional healing.

Some somatic practitioners have affordable classes or workshops. For example

Everybody is different.  This is not a fast-paced work.

There are many types of trauma and different ways of categorizing them.

In general, the more intense or “big” the trauma was, the longer the trauma lasted, the earlier in life the trauma was, the more the trauma involved your parents or caregivers, and the less support you had at the time of the trauma, the more complicated it is to work with. The body and conscious mind has usually intelligently disconnected from the disturbing and painful thoughts, emotions, sensations, and impulses of past events or time periods, or they have never built connections to them in the first place.

I’ve heard of people who were holding general tension and people who were holding shock trauma in their body, who saw large improvements and shifts happening in just one or a few sessions from somatic and emotional work.  I’ve also seen and heard my own and others’ experiences that C-PTSD can take months to many years. There are very many layers that come to the surface and can be worked through.

It depends on a few factors.

What your budget is is obviously one of these.

An important part of healing is safety, and an important part of safety is a sense of regularity and consistency.

At minimum, I would say

  • 2 sessions at 60 minutes each, per month, is recommended for Embodied Processing or
  • 2 sessions of TRE per month

With TRE, the goal is that you are continuing to practice on your own pretty regularly in between the sessions with me. 4 sessions per month of TRE or EP could be better.  And adding in support calls or messaging in between sessions might be even better. However, if you have a very complex situation going on, or connecting and opening up to sensations, emotions, and impulses is very new or foreign to you, then more is not necessarily better.  Sometimes we can overwhelm the nervous system by forcing it into sessions or into social engagement, when we may have to go at a much slower pace for a much longer time.

Please contact me and we will figure out what will work best for you!
