Safety, safety, safety, safety.  It is super important for our nervous system/emotional system/relational system.

Resourcing can help our sense of safety to grow.

A Resource is anything that helps you feel

  • safer
  • settled
  • relaxed
  • open
  • spacious
  • etc.

If the words safe, settled, or relaxed seem out of reach for you, than what about …?

  • Neutral
  • Somewhat pleasant
  • Stable

If this seems like too much for you, than how about…?

  • Kind of neutral
  • Sort of ok
  • Just a tiny bit better
A resource can be anything from simple to more complex

  • A warm cup of tea in your favorite mug
  • Wrapping yourself up in your favorite blanket
  • Talking with a friend
  • Enjoying a walk in nature
  • Sitting in the sunshine
  • A somatic practice like TRE, breathing, movement
  • Listening to your favorite song
  • A warm shower or bath

When our body is holding onto stress or trauma and sometimes illness or pain, it is because we were under-resourced in the past and/or are currently under-resourced in the present in ways such as

  • Not enough love
  • Not enough safety
  • Not enough presence
  • Not enough attunement
  • Not enough time to integrate
  • Not enough time to process
  • Not enough nervous system capacity
  • Not enough support
  • Do not feel heard, seen, listened to
  • Not enough rest
  • Not enough silence
  • Not enough space-boundaries being violated

Therefore, we can move toward greater balance when we make it a regular practice, daily if possible, to provide ourself with positive resources. Give yourself the things you feel are lacking. Or start to create a space where this could start happening. You can start in even small ways to show your body what it feels like to settle, to feel a sense of comfort, to connect.

  • Making a small request for what you want or need
  • Setting a small boundary and sticking to it
  • Giving yourself a little time for yourself
  • Taking 5 minutes to notice the sights and sounds around you
  • Share something a bit vulnerable with a friend with the intention to create a deeper connection
  • Enjoy any resource that works well for you

Before we start our neurogenic tremor from the TRE process, we can take a few moments to resource to a place of safety or neutrality in our body, or a pleasant memory. This is helpful to create a place we can pendulate back to in case the tremor process feels like it is getting too strong or heavy that day. We can also have awareness of this resource while we tremor if we would like.

In regards to Embodied Proessing, we spend time resourcing at the beginning of the session and throughout the session, again creating more safety so as not to overwhelm our nervous system.

Be well. Be safe. Be resourced. 🙂
